Pregnancy Photo Session

Photo Sessions:

What to Expect

Pregnancy photo shoots are typically one-hour sessions.   While it is not a long duration, many expectant mothers become tired.  Please have snack and drink available to keep your energy throughout the session

A photo session will generally include photographing the body above the mid-thigh region, including images of the belly, images with a partner and images of the belly and toddler.  Some women have preferences that particular body parts not be included. I have a variety of fabrics that can diffuse or cover those body parts.  We can discuss the use of various fabrics.  I encourage my clients to share their creativity and input.  Please feel free to speak openly about your ideas or feelings prior to or during our time together.

Once I begin shooting, I will orchestrate the photo session by suggesting angles and body positioning while I adjust the lighting and camera vantage point.

Helpful tips:

  • Wear loose clothing the day of shoot, as elastic fabric will leave an impression on the skin.
  • Consider polishing nails or leaving them neat and unpolished.
  • Have blouses, tank tops or scarves in a variety of colors and textures available.  Since the final images will be black and white, a purple or red color will appear as dark gray or even black.  Likewise, a yellow or light blue will translate to a light gray color.  Some skin tones work better with dark colors while others are complimented by lighter colored fabrics, we’ll experiment with the fabric.
  • I encourage wearing minimal make up, little or no jewelry and a natural hairstyle.  Long hair can be photographed pinned up and then let down naturally. If you would like to wear jewelry, please restore the luster of the pieces.
  • When including a toddler or children with pregnancy images, take time before the session to prepare them.  Have favorite play items, a snack and a drink available.  The child may want to be included in the images at the beginning of the session or may want to participate in the latter portion of the session.
  • Either way, we will work according to your family’s needs in order to capture the images and encourage the child’s participation as we proceed through the photo session.
  • When the session includes a spouse or partner, closeness, touch and eye contact with one another is necessary for me to photograph relationship and connection.   I look forward to meeting you and creating images of this time in your life.
